Is your dog nervous about nail clipping, trimming, or grinding? Take the fear out of nail care by teaching them to do it themselves. Using a ScratchPad scratch board, your dog creates a positive association with nail maintenance and is able to choose to proceed at their own pace. Your dog can trim front AND hind nails on a ScratchPad!

ScratchPad for Dogs® is a handmade product, made in the USA.

For our current production times, please see the shipping information linked at the top of this page.

You'll love our helpful training guide, which outlines a simple step-by-step training process to teach your dog to use his ScratchPad for his front AND back feet.

You can choose to purchase just a ScratchPad, or you can purchase a ScratchPad with a Refill Pack. Purchasing both together gives you free shipping (they will ship together) as well as offering a discount on the normal Refill Only prices.

Our ScratchPads are 10" x 24" - big enough for large dogs, and still suitable for smaller breeds. For small dogs, we recommend turning the board on its side.

The sanding surface is an upgraded, professional quality for extreme durability.

These scratch boards can be made with medium or coarse grit paper, or a combination of both grits. Medium grit is a great, all-purpose texture, but you can use coarse if your dog has large or extra hard nails - just make sure to initially keep your sessions short to keep your dog from accidentally quicking his nails.

A double-sided combination ScratchPad will have medium grit on one side and coarse grit on the other.

With normal use as directed for one to two dogs, your scratching surface should last at least 6-9 months. We are confident our quality is superior and offer a guarantee*. If you find that your sandpaper has worn down to where it needs to be replaced in less than 6 months, please contact us for a complimentary refill pack.

In the meantime, see our FAQ page for our advice to prolong the life of your ScratchPad's abrasive surface.

Please contact us if you have any questions and we can help guide you to find the best solution for your dog.

Turned vet visits to play time

Our dog Meera has always been incredibly fearful of getting her nails done. It got to the point where we had to take her to the vet to have her put under anesthesia to get them done because it caused her so much fear and distress. Even touching her paws can lead to her peeing on the floor or blowing her anal glands. My folks were dubious, but I held out hope. We definitely had to move slowly, but the patience paid off. Fast forward a few months after trying this out and she's now eagerly scratching the board for her favorite treats and getting whipped up in a playtime frenzy! We've yet to figure out the back paws, but her front nails are significantly visibly improved after a little bit of scratching every day.

Can’t believe I didn’t think of this

Our rescue would not let anyone cut her nails- even with multiple sedatives. After one week, our golden retriever mix figured out that a scratch on the board equals a treat. We use special high value treats for filing her nails and she now LOVES scratching on the scratch pad. Her nails get shorter by the day. And she is happy to do it!! Can’t say enough good things about the scratch pad. Brilliant.

Fantastic

We have been battling to trim our dog’s nails for months, even our groomer and vet could not trim our dog’s nails. The ScratchPad is amazing! The training is very easy to follow and our dog caught on very quickly. His nails look awesome!

Thanks

I used to sedate my dog for nail trims. By day three she was using the scratch board and had a word
Command for using it.
